Ely Masterplan

Worked alongside Shape East to organise stakeholder consultations looking at three areas of growth and change within Ely.

The council was seeking to grow the city to a population of some 20,000 to support a wider range of facilities.

Beacon was invited by Shape East (the regional architecture and built environment centre) to assist in preparation of workshop sessions looking at how the city could develop in a sustainable way. Those attending included councillors, land and property owners, council officers and various interest groups. We assisted with the organisation of three stakeholder workshops, acting as facilitators at the sessions which considered expansion to the north of the city, within the centre and around the railway station.

We then interpreted the conclusions and prepared a series of ‘concept masterplans’ to illustrate how that part of the city could be changed.

This work was then turned into an exhibition for public consultation.

The results of the public consultation and the draft Masterplan were subject to formal public consultation in June /July 2009.
