Conservation Areas

Preparation of Conservation Area Appraisals, Management Plans, rapid area assessments, designation assessment reports and public consultation materials.

Description

Beacon has undertaken a number of Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans for a diverse range of local authorities. These have varied considerably in size and complexity, ranging from entire city centres (Peterborough) to very small villages (Great Burstead) and everything in between. Some authorities have required us to manage the whole process from start to finish, others have required simple text drafts; some have required we follow a prescribed format, whilst others have given us a blank slate upon which to design the format of the documents.

A number of authorities have asked us to carry out the public consultation as part of our brief. In these cases we have organised exhibitions and prepared banners and boards; delivered presentations to societies, councils and committees; produced consultation leaflets; and, written reports of consultation.

We have also been asked to carry out assessments of whether areas warrant Conservation Area designation as well as rapid area assessments, based on the English Heritage methodology, to underpin an authority’s development strategies for key areas. Appraisals have been carried out for a number of authorities, including: Cambridge City Council, London Borough of Redbridge, Basildon District Council and Peterborough City Council.
