A new headquarters building for a major insurance company approved within 12 weeks.

Beacon was appointed to secure permission for Amlin UK's new HQ. The new building will provide 65,000 sqf of office accommodation and replace three outdated and largely vacant buildings that occupy the site. The proposal effectively doubles the current floorspace and the new building also includes ancillary residential accommodation for visiting staff.

We managed and coordinated the planning application, provided heritage advice and led the public consultation exercise. Whilst the site is not located in a sensitive location, the significant increase in accommodation and the proximity of neighbouring properties, some of which are listed, required careful design management. The efforts put in pre-application paid dividends with planning permission granted by way of a delegated decision just 12 weeks after the application was validated.

Amlin UK's head office is located across two sites in Chelmsford and this permission will enable them to both consolidate their current business and expand. We were subsequently appointed to discharge the planning conditions.

Planning permission was granted.
