Beacon Planning Ltd help secure extension and refurbishment to a former C16/17 bastle in Northumberland

We have helped secure planning permission for alterations and extensions to a non-designated heritage asset within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Permission has been secured for alterations and extensions to a former bastle, or fortified farmhouse, in Northumberland. The building is included within the Northumberland Historic Environment Record but is not listed or in a conservation area. Under the provisions of the NPPF the building is a ‘non-designated heritage asset’.

Beacon Planning Ltd assisted the owner in securing permission despite strong objections from the County Archaeologist on matters which delayed the decision but which at the Planning Committee meeting where the application was determined were accepted to be outside the scope of planning control. The works will secure the long- term future of the property as a family home. The owners were delighted with the decision and grateful for Beacon’s help and advice.
