Student Accommodation proposal for Churchill College, Cambridge
19 October 2016 | Posted by Ella Murfet

Beacon Planning has submitted a planning application to Cambridge City Council for the development of three blocks of student accommodation just off Storey's Way, Cambridge

The proposal constitutes the demolition of an existing office building on the site to make way for the new units. The development will increase Churchill College's offering of postgraduate student accommodation through the provision of 35 new student rooms on the College campus site.

Beacon Planning was appointed by the College to cover both the planning and heritage elements of the proposal. The site is particularly sensitive in terms of its historic significance being located within a Conservation Area and near a Listed Building. However, the impact of the development on the historic environment is considered to be acceptable, providing an enhancement to the setting. Beacon Planning have worked closely with the project architects, Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture Ltd, to achieve a high quality design that respects the setting whilst providing for the current and future needs of the College.

The planning application is currently out to consultation with a target determination date in January 2017.
