12 September 2016 | Posted by Andy Thompson

Beacon have been shortlisted by the East of England branch of the Royal Town Planning Institute for its work in the preparation of a Masterplan for Girton College, Cambridge.

The site is within the Green Belt and the main College buildings are Grade II* listed with many of the trees covered by Tree Preservation Orders. The masterplan was prepared in close consultation with Council officers, Historic England the Parish Council and allows for growth of the College over the next 20 years or so by some 400 student bedrooms, together with a new auditorium, improved sports facilities and a relocated car park.

When the application was considered by the Planning Committee it was approved unanimously with many councillors commenting on the high quality of both the process followed, and with the site masterplan. It was described as "a brilliant example" and "incredibly well progressed" and it is understood the Council are now citing this project as an example of best practice.

The awards ceremony is being held at Girton College on Friday 23 September.
