Phase 2 Central Chelmsford Development
6 January 2015 | Posted by Jenni Mason

Planning Permission for Phase 2 Central Chelmsford Development agreed.

Full planning permission for the Genesis Housing Association funded City Park West development on the former Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) campus in central Chelmsford was agreed in principle (subject to completion of the S106 agreement) at Chelmsford City Council's Planning Committee meeting on 16 December 2014.

This mixed-use development is Phase 2 of the redevelopment of the former ARU campus for which outline permission was granted in 2012. Phase 1 was also granted full planning permission in 2012 and is now nearing completion. Phase 2 is set to start on site in the spring of 2015. Phase 2 includes 386 new homes, 4,900 sqm of commercial floor space and new public open spaces. Phase 1 has delivered 219 new homes including a 65-bedroom extra care facility, and refurbished and brought back into use the Grade II listed Anne Knight Building and the locally listed Frederick Chancellor and Law Buildings.

Beacon Planning prepared the Built Heritage, Townscape and Visual Impact chapter of the Addendum Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) that supported Phase 2 of the development.
